The Samajwadi Party Wednesday fielded actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife Poonam Sinha as its Lok Sabha candidate from Lucknow, the constituency where the BJP has fielded Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The candidature was announced by SP president Akhilesh Yadav, a day after Poonam Sinha joined his party. She joined the SP the day Rajnath Singh filed his nomination papers, hoping to retain the seat he won in 2014. Shatrughan Sinha recently quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined the Congress.
समाजवादी पार्टी ने बुधवार को अभिनेता से नेता बने शत्रुघ्न सिन्हा की पत्नी पूनम सिन्हा को लखनऊ से अपना लोकसभा उम्मीदवार चुनावी मैदान में उतारा, जहां भाजपा ने केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह को चुनाव मैदान में उतारा। उम्मीदवारी की घोषणा सपा अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने की थी, जिसके एक दिन बाद पूनम सिन्हा ने उनके पार्टी में शामिल हो गए। वह उस दिन सपा में शामिल हुईं, जिस दिन राजनाथ सिंह ने अपना नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किया था, जिससे उन्हें 2014 में मिली सीट को बरकरार रखने की उम्मीद थी। शत्रुघ्न सिन्हा ने हाल ही में भारतीय जनता पार्टी छोड़ दी और कांग्रेस में शामिल हो गए।
