The death toll due to the severe cyclone Gaja that devastated several districts in Tamil Nadu two days ago has risen to 33 and damaged 117,624 houses, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami said in Sunday.
Opposition leaders have criticized what they say was the government's apathy in reaching out relief materials like food, drinking water and other material to the cyclone affected areas.
In Pudukottai district, people complained about not getting relief materials and protested on the roads. They also set fire to five government vehicles.
मुख्यमंत्री के। पलानिसवामी ने रविवार को कहा कि गंभीर चक्रवात गजा के कारण मृत्यु दर दो दिन पहले तमिलनाडु के कई जिलों को तबाह कर चुकी है और 33,624 घरों को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दी गई है।
विपक्षी नेताओं ने आलोचना की है कि वे कहते हैं कि चक्र, प्रभावित पानी जैसे खाद्य पदार्थ, पेयजल और अन्य सामग्री जैसे राहत सामग्री तक पहुंचने में सरकार की उदासीनता है।
पुदुकोट्टाई जिले में, लोगों ने राहत सामग्री नहीं मिलने और सड़कों पर विरोध करने की शिकायत की। उन्होंने पांच सरकारी वाहनों में आग लगा दी।
